President's Message

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

Elections. The following HOA Board offices are up for election in October 2010. The term of office is for two years, beginning January 2011:

Third vice-president (ACC & Deed Restrictions)
      Treasurer
      Secretary
      Area Directors for Areas 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9

Any member desiring nomination may file his/her name in nomination with the chairman of the nominating committee not less than seven (7) days prior to General Meeting of the Membership, which will be held on September 14, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center.. Nominations for any office shall be opened by the presiding officer at the September General Meeting to receive nominations from the floor.  Area Directors must reside in the “Area” they represent. If you are unsure of your area, please check the 2010 Directory or the subdivision map in the Community Center.

In accordance with our bylaws, three board members and two homeowners were appointed to the Nominating Committee. The appointments include Bill Burton (Chairperson), Vince Glocksien,  Tim McWilliams, Joe Bond, and Peggy Shockley. These members have our sincere appreciation for taking on this very important task.

Director Area 5. After one of our recent meetings, a very nice lady inquired about serving as director of Area 5. I believe she works for Chase. I had intended to call her within a few days of the meeting, but I lost her business card. If she is still interested, I ask that she please contact me.

Our End of Summer Celebration will be held at the Community Center pool, on Saturday, September 11, 2010, from noon till 2 p.m. FREE grilled hot dogs, chips and snow cones will be served. I will be grilling the hot dogs. If you would like to volunteer to help with this event, please contact me (281-370-9121) or Judy Harr (281-376-4001) at the Community Center.

While attending this End of Summer event, please stop by the Memorial Northwest Ladybugs Garden Club table to buy their new “Ladybug Cookbook Favorites” recipe book. These beautiful books can be purchased for just $11 each and would make a nice Christmas gift for someone in your family. Information concerning membership in this fine organization will be available at this event and at their September 22, 2010, meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the Clubhouse. See the article in this newsletter.

Facilities Development Committee. We are off to a very exciting start on our project to evaluate and make recommendations for possible improvements to the Community Center facilities. Rick Harris and Tim McWilliams have volunteered to serve as co-chairpersons. Committee volunteers include: Oran Woody, Van Cramer, Eileen Koscho, Connie Shinaver, Bill Burton, Andy Rittenhouse Greg Schindler and Joe Bond.

During the next several months, our committee members will be interviewing residents for ideas, visiting other subdivisions to get concepts for what type and size facilities work best in similar communities, and looking at costs. The committee is working to present their recommendations and funding for vote of the membership in the spring of 2011.

We are indeed fortunate that so many skilled professionals have volunteered to serve on this committee and are especially grateful for the services of three experienced architectural / construction professionals:

Rick Harris is a registered architect and a LEED Accredited Professional and currently a Principal and the Chief Operating Officer at FKP Architects. He served as a Building Committee Chairman for the Bentley Education Center at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in Houston and is currently managing projects for three major medical facilities.

Greg Schindler, is a Professional Engineer and a Certified Facilities Manager, International Facility Management Association. Greg was instrumental in the renovation in El Paso Headquarters-Houston and previously managed the construction of several large facilities for Dell and HP.

Oran Woody is a registered architect working for HBL Architects as a project architect. Oran’s current projects include: St Mary Queen Catholic Church, St. Francis Loyola Catholic Church, First Methodist Church (Friendswood) and Pearland Fire Station.

Reminder – special trash service for disabled residents is available. If you have physical limitations and can’t take your trash cans to the curb and do not have an able-bodied person who can do it for you, please contact Consolidated Management Company, Phone No. (281) 296-9775. Upon verification of your situation, we can make special arrangements with Republic for backdoor service. Please do not call unless you truly need this special service.

HOA Elections will take place at the General Meeting of the Membership, on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Additional details, including times and places for early / absentee balloting will be announced in the October newsletter.

Our October HOA Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the Clubhouse.

The General Meeting of the Members (Nominations) will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center. A meeting of the HOA Board will commence immediately after the General Meeting.

Sincerely,

Craig Chaszar
